Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe – Introduction to Uganda Birding
Arrive at Entebbe International Airport and meet your specialist birding guide. Transfer to your lakeside lodge and enjoy an introductory birding session around Entebbe Botanical Gardens and Lake Victoria shoreline, spotting species such as kingfishers, weavers, herons, and sunbirds.
Day 2: Mabamba Wetland – Shoebill Encounter
Travel by boat through the Mabamba Swamp, one of Uganda’s best locations for the rare Shoebill Stork. Enjoy a guided wetland birding experience before exploring surrounding habitats and returning to Entebbe.
Day 3: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park
Travel north to Murchison Falls National Park with birding stops along the way. Enjoy evening birdwatching around the lodge and savannah areas.
Day 4: Murchison Falls Birding and Wildlife Safari
Explore the northern sector of the park through morning and afternoon game drives. Search for Abyssinian Ground Hornbill, Grey Crowned Crane, Secretary Bird, kingfishers, raptors, and other savannah species. Enjoy a boat cruise on the Nile with excellent waterbird sightings.
Day 5: Budongo Forest Birding Experience
Explore Budongo Forest, one of Uganda’s premier forest birding destinations. Search for Great Blue Turaco, Chocolate-backed Kingfisher, African Pied Hornbill, and other rainforest species with expert guides.
Day 6: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park
Travel to Kibale through scenic countryside with birding stops. Arrive at the forest lodge and enjoy evening forest birding.
Day 7: Kibale Forest Birding and Primate Experience
Spend the day exploring Kibale Forest, searching for forest specialists including Green-breasted Pitta, Great Blue Turaco, African Pitta, and numerous primates. Optional chimpanzee tracking experience available.
Day 8: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park
Travel through the crater lake region to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Enjoy afternoon birding around Kazinga Channel and wetlands.
Day 9: Queen Elizabeth Birding Safari
Explore the park’s diverse habitats including savannah, wetlands, and woodland areas. Search for African Skimmer, Martial Eagle, African Fish Eagle, flamingos (seasonal), and many waterbirds. Enjoy a boat cruise on Kazinga Channel.
Day 10: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Birding
Transfer to Bwindi, a UNESCO World Heritage rainforest and one of Africa’s top birding locations. Begin searching for Albertine Rift endemics including African Green Broadbill, Rwenzori Turaco, and White-tailed Ant Thrush.
Day 11: Bwindi Specialized Birding Day
Enjoy full-day birding in Bwindi’s forest trails with specialist guides. Explore different sectors for maximum bird diversity and optional gorilla trekking experience.
Day 12: Mgahinga Gorilla National Park Birding
Explore Mgahinga’s bamboo forests and volcanic landscapes while searching for highland species including Rwenzori Turaco, Dusky Crimsonwing, and Mountain Yellow Warbler. Optional golden monkey tracking available.
Day 13: Lake Mburo National Park Birding
Travel to Lake Mburo National Park for savannah and wetland birding. Search for African Finfoot, Papyrus Gonolek, Brown-chested Lapwing, ostriches (where available), and other unique species.
Day 14: Entebbe Departure and Final Birding Session
Return to Entebbe with a final birding stop at key wetlands or botanical areas depending on flight schedules. Transfer to Entebbe International Airport for departure, concluding your complete Uganda birding adventure.
